WoW March to 1000 Gold: 5th Podcast, 25g14s

Postby mmo_Tyson » Wed Jan 16, 2008 12:05 am

Welcome once again to this tutorial series where I take a brand new character (Night Elf Druid) from scratch on a brand new server and earn 1000 gold in the game World of Warcraft. This is without the help of any addons, extra characters, or of course, begging!

This is an exciting podcast. The lessons are bigger, the money is bigger, and it's multiple sessions of "work" all condensed into one podcast. Enjoy!

With less than 5g, I bought the following and put it back up, leaving me with 1g and change to my name. Note the fortunate blue cloak! Yes, with the mith spurs, and blue cloak, I can finally say I've entered another league.

One of the recipes which sold during the next session, for a couple gold profit. After having a total of 2g97s to my name, a 2g net profit is significant. You can get me my own back patter for my birthday.

And the other one that sold, plus something that didn't.

I find these hilarious. In one screenshot I have over 8g. In the next, I buy this Energy cloak for 8g, leaving me with....

ouch! Will you take a look at that. How is it possible to get down to 85c? AH deposits, that's how. With 7s, I put up the remaining miscellaneous junk items because I was in sore need of cash.

From here, it only gets worse. With 85c, I sold the rest of the grey junk to the nearby weapons vendor leaving me with 14s, and here's what I find when I logon next. Double ouch.

But then... I use the magic of talking with people to make something happen. Listen to the podcast for the details.

And I just have to laugh. Up to 25g! And right, immediately back down to 5g in minutes. Boy do I know how to spend money. But here's what I bought.

So at this point, here's everything I have up in the auction house after the AH deposits.

A session or two later, after a couple of those formulas sold, I'm left with 32g, but spy something amazing in the auction house, something I cannot pass up, but I need another 30g to even buy it. I turn on the magic again and am off through the canals to IF.

After that magical deal, I have 72g. But you know what happens when I get a sudden increase in money, right?

Back down to 12g, but look what I have. Until next time!

Ok. This last podcast goes to show that experience matters and the better you know the stuff you're dealing with, the better you can expect to gain success.

Congratulations, Tyson! Victory is just a few deals away!

On the other hand, this experiment has caused a change in my attitude: I have already diminished the amount of commodities in my portfolio and changed to the rare/epic sector. I made a notion, however, that the server I'm in is very mature and the market is very stable: there are next to no real bargains in the AH currently, haven't been for a couple of weeks that is. That may be because a) I'm not too familiar with the recipes and other specific items that may be sold at very low prices unknowingly (as you pointed out in this podcast) or b) the prices have been stabilised by extensive end game grinding.

So, off to find more bargains and good luck on those deals there!

You have a great point Copra. I have seen days go by where there has seemingly been nothing in either the epics or crafting sector. But I have never seen 2 weeks go by, on any server regardless of maturity, without a decent deal. Here are the rules I go by:

1. Check the ah for a few minutes more frequently. At least in the morning before work/school and again when you get home, and again before bed. That's usually my pattern. The entire thing, unless I'm talking to people, usually takes less than 10 minutes per day.

2. Those crafting greens have been a much higher success for me than epics post BC. The epics is where I've made my largest single profits, but the greens (and design pattern rares) have given me innumerable 200-400+ gold profits on single items.

3. My current search order:
a) all epics
b) all recipes/rare and above (for three things: epic crafting patterns, rare enchanting and rare design patterns)
c) now I target individual recipe sectors:
i. alchemy/all (for those greens)
ii. enchanting/all (for the greens)
iii. engineering/all (for its greens and last because it offers fewer high ticket items, but several lower ticket and still worthwhile options... 20-50g+)

I will admit I haven't tried the other professions lately to see if other world drop pattens above 300 have been added: leatherworking/tailoring/blacksmithing/etc. The thing about those others is that there are very few that can really help out a person pre-70 and this is just one of the things that I think is wrong with the WoW professions... I shall have a rant on that someday... it's been broken from the beginning.

Hi, I've been avidly watching (listening to) your march to 1000G and I would just like to say thanks :) The tips you've gave have helped alot with my own moneymaking. My main is only level 42 and I have an alt for banking (level 10, I couldn't resist letting him wear a blood elf bandit mask and getting his pet).

I would usually simply sell the drops I got whilst grinding but thanks to your podcasts I'm looking for a profit of over 200G from next to no work. I've bought 1 epic leatherworking recipe for 50G and the median price is 250G so I have reposted at 200G, does this sound good to you? I have also bought a couple of green recipe's which I'm hoping will net me over 75G profit.

I have found 2 leatherworking recipe's that are 375. Firstly Pattern: Hurricane Boots, which I bought for 50G and also Pattern: Shoulderpads of Renewed Life which I have put in a bid of 50G and I expect to win.

Thanks for all the tips and keep up the good work :D

Nice job Senio! Yep, those sound like good bids, and that's what I do all the time. If avg. or more accurately median is 250g, and I bought it for 50g (or cheaper... sometimes I buy recipes for 2-5g that avg 300+g) I might just put it up for 200g or better, 199g99s (mild psych boost but still measurable) just to get it to sell quick and move on. Especially if I feel the item isn't too rare or hot.

50g for the Hurricane and Renewed Life sound good but your profit may not be as big as you hope only because anyone shopping for them is usually aware that there are often several up at any one time depending on server. However 50g seems like a no brainer (at time of writing of course).
